Where are you going to college?
Idk
Who are you going to prom with?
Really don't know.
Are you going on senior trip?
Honestly no clue.
Notice what all of these questions include... "Going"... Not what are you "doing" but going...
As we are constantly pressured to focus on the future, we fail to live in TODAY, right now.
That being said I mean it's so exciting to have goals and be excited about the future and best which truly is to come.
Rarely do I hear:
"What are you doing with your life right now?"
"What's going on with you right now"
Why? Really, why?
If we constantly set our eyes on the future, we can never fully enjoy the PRESENT that the present truly is. Sure school isn't the greatest, college, scholarships, prom, senior year in general is stressful, and senioritis is REAL, really real- we fail to look to the person sitting next to us or enjoy today or acknowledge how blessed we are to be HERE, RIGHT NOW at Riverside High School.
Focusing on the future, also seems to cause some peeps (including myself) to totally forget and disregard the past...
"No way I am going to get into college..."
HELLO STUPID wake up and remember all those late nights the past 4 years studying, those long practices, and the awesome things you have been apart of this past few years that speak volumes for you as a person and clearly make YOU a great candidate for any college. Don't let fear of the future smush all of the things we have worked hard for to accomplish.
6 months from now we will be at a new cool
place with new faces- hopefully having the time of our lives, but we won't be sitting in class laughing with the friends we have grown up, walk through the good old T mall, or be able to drive 2 miles down the road to see some of our best friends. Prom will come, you WILL get into college. There is a time for all of that, and it will come ok. But for now laugh, goof off, go drive around and just hang out with friends. Look up from your phone and away from your future to live in the now.
So many people and things in this world try to shape 18 year old KIDS in cookie cutter molds of what it means to be an "adult" and grow up... These standards constantly scream "you are not enough... You're scores aren't high enough, you don't have enough.... But really we are enough!!!!" God placed each one of us on this very earth 18 years ago to have a distinct place in this world. If we fail to realize that, we fail to live our life to the fullest. Just Think 4 years ago our biggest worry was passing our permit test (ok maybe just me) and 4 years from now it will be something... College loans..grad school... Kids (😳) what have you... But right now we are in the COOLEST/BEST TIME OF OUR LIVES EVER. We can drive ourselves around all day long (esp with low gas prices 😋) and do our own thing but then come home to a warm house and a homemade dinner on the table (s/o mom). We are only 18 years old for 365 days and seniors at RHS for about 3 more months, we have 1000s of days left in our lives to worry about years to come. Stop and look around and realized how blessed you are RIGHT NOW. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Believe that^ Tomorrow will come people, enjoy TODAY.
That is all.
